Study Skills Course - CEP 050
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course will develop and refine skills for college remedial assistance, academic guidance, and proficiency assistance based on student needs. Instructors will monitor, support, assist, tutor, and meet with students to work on filling academic gaps. Students are guided through different ways to problem solve and become actively involved in their education by becoming resourceful learners.
Changing the education environment from high school to college can be a rather difficult task. Nevada State High School has created the Study Skills Course to serve as the "training wheels" to support students in the full college experience. All students are required to take this course each semester at NSHS to ensure their success at Nevada State High School. Upon completion of their first semester at NSHS, a student can apply for Study Skills Exemption. To qualify, a student must meet the following standards set by NSHS:
- Proficiency in ALL Nevada Proficiency Exams

- Enrollment in math and English courses that are 100-level or higher
- Pass ALL courses from the previous semester including Transition and Study Skills
- Complete ALL required documents for NSHS on time
- Completion of all outside requirements
- Good attendance
- Daily MOODLE log-ins
- Response to NSHS administrative contacts within 24 hours
- Maintaining accuracy of student information (phone numbers, addresses, etc.)
- No discrepancies or instances of inability to follow directions by NSHS staff
- Timely attendance of ALL Transition and COMPASS course
